EX-BOSS Steve Coppell looks highly unlikely to launch a Royals raid this coming transfer window.

The new Bristol City manager was rumoured to be chasing skipper Ivar Ingimarsson before the Royals captain eased supporters' fears by signing a new one-year deal last week.

And Coppell may have been tempted to lure a number of his former players to Ashton Gate to help him build a promotion-winning Robins team.

Reports suggested he was tracking goalkeeper Adam Federici and midfielder Jem Karacan, plus others who served under him at the Madejski Stadium including Stoke's out-of-favour Dave Kitson.

But Coppell, 54, said this week: "It will be difficult for me in many ways.

"I speak with Brian McDermott quite regularly. I think he is conscious of the hovering cloud of Steve Coppell at Bristol City and whether I will be interested in any of their players."

And he insisted: "Reading have the players they want to keep buttoned up because of the continuity.

"There are a few players they have made offers to, but I don't think I will take anyone from Reading."
