Royal return? Brendan Rodgers is the hot favourite to become the new Reading manager.
ROYALS chairman Sir John Madejski is confident a new manager will be in place before the weekend after making a swoop for Brendan Rodgers.
The Chronicle understands Reading have been in talks with Watford in an attempt to thrash out a compensation package.
It is thought the Hornets wanted double the £500,000 Royals initially offered for the services of the 36-year-old who is on a 12-month rolling contract at Vicarage Road.
However, a compromise has now been reached leaving Rodgers free to open discussion about the terms of his contract which is likely to be for at least two years.
Madejski would not confirm Rodgers" appointment last night (Wednesday), preferring to keep the new manager"s identity a closely-guarded secret.
But with an announcement expected any day now, he told the Chronicle: 'We"re still going through the process but I think the appointment will be imminent, possibly before the end of this week.'

Not a big name manager that we would have liked, and also not alot of experience at this level, or the premiership. He has nto ultimatly managed big name players and big games. Is this a step forward or 5 steps back for the club. I cant see us getting back to the premiership next year now. My season ticket will be going back if this happens. Its just a cheap manager for the club - very narrow minded.

"He has not ultimatly managed big name players" ...... Drogba, Schevchenko, Essien etc. etc. Just how big do you want them? Just be warned, it's not a job for life and he will end up at Chelsea

Give the man a chance. It took a number of years to build our record breaking team. Unfortunately some glory seekers have been attracted to the club. I waited 30 years for success and I can wait again. If you can't send your ticket back but don't come knocking next time success come our way.

Drogba, Schevchenko, Essien ??? he didnt manage them - Jose did! He was not the manager, he managed the reserves! He didnt have to make any ultime desisions that would effect the guys careers, or buy or sell players.
I wish him well if he comes, however is he really the best manager out of 1000 applicants? i think he is the best suited cheap manager, i dont think he will get up promoted - mid table at the vesy best i expect.
Im not happy!

Excellent news if true. A young upcoming manager who will not be afraid to play yopungsters, get people in on loan if need be, and basically will freshen up this club. The right decision definetly. Good luck Brendan...
