READING FC defender Liam Moore was left to rue a string of late chances in a 2-2 draw with relegation-threatened Sunderland.

Veteran forward Yann Kermorgant came off the bench to steal a point for Royals on Saturday with a powerful header following Chris Gunter’s inch-perfect delivery.

But defender Moore aired his frustration after 36-year-old Kermorgant scuffed a chance to win the game in injury time when he tried to dink the ball over Black Cats’ stopper Lee Camp.

Royals also squandered another golden opportunity moments later when Modou Barrow missed a header from close range before suggesting he had been blinded by the sun.

“Yann can still deliver where it counts,” asserted Moore. “If you put the service in there he can score the goals.

"We're a little bit frustrated, as he is, with the dinked chance - we see his finishing every single day.

"If he puts his foot through it I'm very confident he hits the target and nine times out of 10 he scores.

“But we can't be too down, he came on and got a goal out of nothing with the power he generated for the header and for that we've got to be thankful.”

He added: “It's small margins, they were massive chances. I spoke with Mo Barrow and he said the sun was in his eyes, so that's the difference between winning and losing.

“If it's not such a sunny day then he taps it in and we win 3-2, and we're pretty much safe. It keeps going, it's a topsy-turvey season, we keep grinding and we want to get safe as soon as possible.”

Reading Chronicle:

Reading boss Paul Clement and assistant Nigel Gibbs look on from the touchline.

Royals had taken the lead through Liam Kelly's 20th minute penalty, but were pegged back in the second half by a wondergoal from Paddy McNair and a rare Lee Cattermole header.

But Kermorgant's superb header with 10 minutes to go salvaged a draw for Paul Clement's men.

And Moore confessed Royals need to be grateful for a point after gifting struggling Sunderland a host of chances.

He continued: “We went into the game and we wanted to get three points, but the chances we gave away in the first and second half we've probably got to be thankful for a point.

“Let's not get it twisted, they've got some very good players, they came down from the Premier League last season and kept a decent amount of their players.

“They created chances and it would be a shame if they do go down, because they are a massive club - I think they'll bounce back.”

Reading remain 19th in the Championship table and five points above the drop zone with a trip to Sheffield Wednesday to come this Saturday (3pm ko).
