READING FC Women eased past Millwall Lionesses to secure top spot in their final game of the FA Women’s Super League Continental Tyres Cup.

The comfortable victory on Sunday means Kelly Chambers' Royals are now guaranteed to finish above Arsenal in Group One South and are unbeaten in eight in all competitions.

Reading had to be patient in the opening stages and could have fallen behind in the 38th minute when only some heroic last-ditch defending denied Millwall's Rianna Dean an open goal.

It proved a costly miss as Royals took the lead seconds later when Brooke Chaplen finished off a slick counter attack started by Fara Williams.

The visitors doubled their lead seven minutes into the second half when Rachel Furness hammered home from close-range.

Chambers' side then netted two goals in a five-minute burst to kill off the hosts.

Lauren Bruton made it 3-0 on the hour mark by firing past Lionesses keeper Sarah Quantrill, then Furness scored again soon after as Millwall began to wilt.

There was still time left for Chaplen to notch her second of the day with a smart strike in the 85th minute.

Royals midfielder Remi Allen beamed: “We scored five goals, which is pleasing, and we kept a clean sheet, so we can’t really do much more than that.

“Millwall were difficult to beat, especially in the first-half. They’re tough, they’re aggressive, they came at us and tried to press us.

“We did struggle a little bit in the first half, but we were patient and stuck to our game plan and the goals started to flow.

“The whole team played well, (Rachel) Furness scored two and set one up, so she did well. I think the whole team performance was pleasing.

“We’ve got patterns of play, a style of playing, which sometimes in the first-half, we got a bit frustrated with.”
