SWANSEA City are threatening to scupper Reading FC boss Jaap Stam’s chances of signing Nelson Oliveira – amid rumours of a fresh bid for Brighton’s Tomer Hemed.

Royals have been chasing the Norwich City striker for several weeks and have until 11pm tonight to force a deal through.

But Premier League Swans are believed to have joined the race for 26-year-old Oliveira as a replacement for Fernando Llorente, who is said to be on his way to Spurs.

Reports this morning suggest Swans manager Paul Clement has had a £12m bid rejected by the Canaries, with the Welsh club likely to go back with a better offer before the transfer window closes.

However, Clement is also keen to bring Wildred Bony back to the Swans from Manchester City which could have an impact on any approach for Portuguese ace Oliveira.

Swans’ interest in ex-Benfica forward Oliveira – who has 14 goals in 32 league games for Norwich and is a former Liberty Stadium loanee - means Stam has now stepped up his interest in 30-year-old Hemed.

The Brighton Argus reports Royals had a ‘substantial bid’ for the Israel international rejected by the top-flight Seagulls yesterday, having failed with an earlier bid of around £4m.

Reading have also been heavily linked with Preston’s Jordan Hugill, who had a transfer request rejected yesterday, and Nahki Well, who could be on his way to Burnley.

Stam has brought in seven new players this transfer window, the latest being Sone Aluko from Fulham for a club-record £7.5m on Tuesday.
