READING FC want to lure Wolverhampton Wanderers' Dave Edwards to Berkshire after lodging a £1m bid for the experienced midfielder, reports suggest.

Edwards, 31, has been identified as a top target by Royals' boss Jaap Stam as the Dutchman continues to try and strengthen his squad before the window slams shut next Thursday.

Stam previously stated that his priorities are to sign a midfielder and a striker as he looks to improve on Reading's third-placed finish in the Championship table last season.

The Royals have already raided Wolves once this window when they signed striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and reports today state Stam wants Edwards to follow the Icelandic international to Madejski Stadium.

It has been reported that Royals have already submitted a bid for Edwards, who scored 10 goals for Wolves last season, and discussions could begin imminently.

Edwards has made more than 300 appearances for Wolves since he first moved to Molineux in 2008.

He has also represented Wales on 39 occasions, scoring three times.
