JAAP Stam revealed there are no fresh terms on the table for Jordan Obita despite a host of Championship clubs reportedly chasing his signature.

Obita's current deal will expire at the end of the 2017/18 campaign and a string of teams including Birmingham, Hull and Middlesbrough are all understood to be interested in the 24-year-old.

Royals' boss Stam insisted it is down to the club to decide whether to open negotiations with Obita, who rose through Reading's academy ranks, and his representatives.

Reading have already tied down Liam Moore, Liam Kelly, John Swift and Chris Gunter on long-term deals as Stam plans for the future.

And the Dutchman admitted he is a big fan of Obita.

He told the Chronicle: “I spoke to him quite often last season.

“He was a winger originally but then he played as a left back.

“Lots of the things we asked him to do were totally new for him.

“Sometimes you need to have time to grow into the role and we are very happy with the progress which he made.”

Fans have called for Reading to offer Obita a new deal in order to deter potential suitors trying to lure him away from Madejski Stadium.

It is believed Obita wants to remain at Reading FC.

But Stam stressed it is down to the club's hierarchy to begin negotiations.

“It's up to the club,” declared Stam.

“If Jordan is out of contract then does he need a new deal?

“He's of course a player who did very well for us last season.

“He can play as a left full-back, a left wing-back or even as an attacking winger.

“We are very happy with him and what he has done for the club.”
