DANNY Williams should not rush into making a decision about his future, Reading FC defender Liam Moore has warned.

Moore gave his Royals pal a bit of advice while free agent Williams mulls over a string of tempting offers.

Reading put a new deal in front of Williams several weeks ago, but the 28-year-old midfielder, whose old contract officially expires today, politely declined.

He has not reported back for pre-season training at Hogwood Park this week amid strong links to Premier League new boys, Huddersfield Town, the side who beat Royals in the Championship play-off final.

And Moore urged the USA international to take his time over such a major decision.

Speaking at Hogwood Park earlier today, he said: "Danny is a big character, we get on very well.

"He had a very strong end to the season and he's now a free agent. Football is crazy like that, we've seen it a lot of times when players get a move off the back of a strong finish.

"I think Danny has always been on the radar of moves left, right and centre as well.

"I haven't spoken to him about it personally, but I imagine he's taking his time now before making the best decision."

He also stressed: "But what I can say about Danny is he loved playing for this club and whenever he got the opportunity to play he always gave 100 per cent.

"If he does decide to come back, or go elsewhere, he'll be a great signing for whoever snaps him up."

Williams could still have a change of heart and pen a new contract with Reading, but the chances of that appear slimmer by the day.

The USA international boosted his appeal as a free transfer with some stand-out performances during the play-off semi finals against Fulham and the final at Wembley.

He took Reading's heartbreaking defeat to the Terriers on penalties as badly as anyone, perhaps knowing it could be his last game for the club.

Moore, who joined Royals from then Premier League champions Leicester in summer 2016 continued: "Danny is a game player, he wears his heart on his sleeve and he's a winner.

"That's one of the things that drew me to him straight away. We get on very well because he's a winner in training and in everything he does.

"You get flashbacks of it (the final) every now again, but Danny's face is the one I remember seeing, you could tell it really did hurt him."

With Williams' future now likely to lie elsewhere, Moore insists there are still plenty of grounds for optimism heading into a new Championship campaign under Jaap Stam.

And he pointed to the likes of Liam Kelly, 21, England U21 star John Swift, 22, Tyler Blackett, 23, Jordan Obita, 23, and Tiago Ilori, 24, as the future of the club.

"It's unfortunate Danny ran his contract down, but it's his decision now," Moore said. "I think the club maybe put a contract in front of him, maybe other clubs have as well.

"It's up to him to decide what to do.

"The exciting thing about last season was the age of our players. Some of our top performers were very young.

"Liam Kelly came out with enormous credit and I hope Swifty gets a good break because it was a long, old season for him. Again, he came out with great credit.

"I'm still young-ish at 24, Tyler's young, Tiago's young, Jordan is my age. That's what's exciting about this club. It wasn't as though we reached out peak last season, we're still learning on the job.

"We're growing week-by-week- and I think that will stand us in good stead."
