READING FC have made their first summer signing with the capture of Pelle Clement from Ajax.

The 21-year-old midfielder joins Royals for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £600,000.

The capture of Clement on a three-year deal almost certainly means the end of the road for Danny Williams after the 29-year-old rejected a new deal at Madejski Stadium and is now a free agent amid strong interest from Premier League newboys, Huddersfield Town.

Clement is well known to Royals boss Jaap Stam who was assistant manager at Jong Ajax – the club's second team – when the youngster was coming through the ranks.

Stam said: “Pelle is a player who comes to us from Jong Ajax, having been involved in the first team squad over in Amsterdam last season.

“He will need to learn and adapt to the game over here of course. But he is a young, very promising player with a good personality.

“He is quick, technically good and has good stamina – and he is capable of playing in midfield, up front or in the wide or wing back positions. So I’m pleased to have him with us here in Reading.”

Clement jetted in this morning, signed a conract and will fly back to Holland tonight.

He is due to return to the country on Friday when he will hook up with Reading's first-team squad who returned to pre-season training on Monday.
