SHAUN MacDonald says he does not blame George Evans for the tackle with broke his leg and has told Reading FC to 'go and get promoted' via the Championship play-offs.

The Wigan Athletic midfielder suffered a horror injury during Royals' 1-0 victory at Madejski Stadium on Saturday.

The result confirmed Reading's place in the play-off semi finals and also relegated Latics to League One.

But MacDonald insists Evans should not blame himself for causing the injury.

“To each and every one of you, thank you so much for your kind and positive messages of support,” said MacDonald in an Instagram post from his hospital bed.

“Massive thanks to all the treatment staff, both at Wigan and Reading, for dealing with the situation so well and to all the players at both sets of clubs for comforting me.

“To the lad George (Evans) who unfortunately went in for the tackle, please put no blame on yourself mate.

“These things happen. Go and get promoted for us.”

Medical staff rush to Shaun MacDonald's aid on Saturday.

Evans was booked for the 11th-minute challenge on MacDonald who was treated on the pitch for 10 minutes before being driven to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in an ambulance.

Reading were already leading through Yann Kermorgant's sixth-minute header and they had to survive some late pressure form the Latics before securing the win.

Jaap Stam's men will now face Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield or Fulham in the play-off semi finals, depending on the outcome of Sunday's fixtures, with Royals due to travel to Burton Albion (12pm ko).
