READING FC midfielder John Swift has been nominated for the EFL Young Player of the Year award.

The 21-year-old is named on a three-man shortlist along with Oxford United's Ryan Ledson and Ollie Watkins of Exeter City after the 2017 EFL Awards were announced earlier today.

If Swift lands the award be will join an illustrious list of previous winners including Gareth Bale, Dele Alli and Nathaniel Clyne.

Swift, who is currently on England Under 21 duty, has scored eight goals in 32 league and cup appearances for Reading this season following his £1m move from Chelsea last summer.

However, there are no Royals players in the running for Sky Bet Championship Player of the Season, with Chris Wood (Leeds), Dwight Gayle (Newcastle) and Anthony Knockaert (Brighton) making up the shortlist.

Billy Sharp and John Fleck (both Sheffield United) Josh Morris (Scunthorpe) are the nominations for Sky Bet League One Player of the Season.

John Marquis and James Coppinger (both Doncaster) and Danny Hylton (Luton) will battle it out for the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Season award.

Meanwhile, voting remains open for the best EFL Goal of the Year from 2016.

Former Royal Steve Sidwell is among the 10 nominated goals following his superb effort for Brighton against Bristol City in November.

But no current Reading players have been nominated after each Football League club was asked to submit their stand-out goal.

The EFL Awards are judged by a panel of leading experts from the football and media industry and includes a host other categories which are listen below.

One of the most prestigious accolades is the Contribution to League Football Award which recognises long-standing and exceptional service to The League.

The late Jimmy Hill, Peter Shilton and Jimmy Armfield have all previously been recognised for their contribution.

The EFL Awards ceremony will take place at The Hilton, Park Lane, London on Sunday, April 9.
