JAAP Stam has revealed there has been nothing but 'radio silence' in recent weeks over a potential Reading FC takeover.

A Chinese consortium are attempting to buy a 75% share of the club from the current Thai owners.

But the process has been dragging on for months and Reading boss Stam says little information has been forthcoming from the club's hierarchy.

“There has been radio silence for the past couple of weeks, so I don't know what's going on,” explained the Dutchman.

“I spoke to Brian (Tevreden, director of football) on Wednesday and he didn't mention anything.

“I also spoke to one of the owners last week but there was no mention of the takeover.

“All we can do is keep doing our jobs and focus on getting results.”

Stam has voiced his frustration over the on-going takeover saga. However, the Chinese group – headed by siblings Dai Yongge and Dai Xiu Li – are thought to have backed the manager in January after handing Royals a £10.4m loan.

Stam went on to make five new signings during the transfer window including Tiago Ilori from Liverpool for a club-record £3m.

Stam also confirmed he is already looking at areas where his squad need strengthening at the end of the season.

“I know what I want to do, I want to improve as a manager and improve Reading as a club,” he declared. “I'm not here to work towards 10th or 11th spot and think that's nice.

“If we're still in the Championship next season I'm looking for more progress with the team which means we need to take decisions as a club.

“We're looking for young players with a chance to go into the first team. Maybe it's a bit harsh but we are not looking for players who have been here a long time because it's nice to have them at the club.

“We are looking for players we can improve and can play for the first team, but they need to have the talent.

“We need to look at our first team squad now and ask if the players are good enough to give us a real chance of going up to the Premier League.

“If we think they aren't good enough we need to get players out and new players in.

“That also depends on finance, what we can do and whether we have to sell players first, though you never want to sell your best players.”

He added: “We'll be looking at all the players towards the end of the season including those out on loan and the progress they have made.

“We have reports on all our loan players after every game and watch clips of them or send someone from the club to watch them play.

“We'll be making decisions on all of that.”

Reading will be determined to avoid slipping to a third straight Championship defeat for the first time this season when they host Wolves tomorrow (3pm ko).
