EX-Reading FC captain Graeme Murty says he is learning whether he has the temperament to be a football manager while interim boss of Rangers.

Murty was handed the temporary reins at Ibrox following the departure of Mark Warburton earlier this month.

The 42-year-old, who was previously Rangers U20s coach, has picked up one win and one defeat during his spell in hot seat.

But despite being third favourite with most bookmakers to become Rangers' next permanent manager, Reading's former promotion-winning skipper says he is unsure if he has the tools needed for the job.

"The feeling will be and has been that I'm going to take this period to assess whether I am cut out for it or not," said Murty.

"I don't mean in terms of tactical or technical knowledge, just in terms of temperament, whether this is an environment I want to operate in or whether I want to be more of a developmental person.

"But I will take my own time in assessing that."

Murty will remain in temporary charge of tomorrow's clash between Rangers and hosts Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Glasgow-based giants are said to have already held a number of interview for the role of permanent boss.

Murty also told BBC Sport: "They [the club] have not put any timescale or any pressure on me, the only communication I have had from all members of the board is: 'Keep doing what you are doing, can we help you at all?' So that's been great.

"If it's tomorrow that it changes, if it's next week, whenever it is, I will just be continuing on and making sure I do the best for the players.

"It's a great opportunity for me to take my coaching to another level."

Right-back Murty skippered Royals to the 2005/06 Championship title with a record 106 points.

The ex-Scotland international made 339 appearances for Reading between 1998-2009, scoring two goals.

Next Rangers manager (Bet Victor): Alex McLeish 15/8, Malky Mackay 6/1, Graeme Murty 6/1, Dougie Freedman 9/1, Alan Pardew 12/1, Frank de Boer 16/1, Derek McInnes 16/1.
