READING FC director of football Brian Tevreden has revealed the status of the club's Chinese takeover remains unclear.

Tevreden says he sympathises with the 'frustration' felt by Royals fans during the on-going process which has dragged on since last year, amid fears it could now collapse.

However, a massive £10.4m cash-injection from the Chinese consortium recently which funded five new transfers – Tiago Ilori, Adrian Popa, Jordon Mutch, Lewis Grabban and Reece Oxford - suggests things are moving in the right direction.

But Tevreden says he is not in possession of the exact details of the takeover.

“Of course I can understand the frustration amongst supporters, but for me it is difficult to explain because I know nothing about it,” he said.

“My focus is purely on the football side and not on the financial side.

“I know it's frustrating because out fans pay a lot of money to watch their team, they love the club and the culture, so I completely understand it.

“But unfortunately it is very difficult for me to say any more about it [the takeover] because I know nothing more.”

Siblings Dai Yongge and Dai Xiu Li are leading the Chinese consortium hoping to acquire 75% of Reading Football Club from the current Thai owners.

The pair have already seen one takeover attempt crash when a £130m bid for Hull City was rejected by the Premier League last summer before it had reached the owners and directors test stage due to an apparent lack of transparency about the rest of the consotrium's members, who were supposedly supplying around 50% of the fund.

It is thought Premier League chiefs passed on their reservations to EFL bosses who also have their own concerns.

Yongee and Xiu Li met with EFL representatives in Preston in mid-December, but little information has been forthcoming since.

Royals director Pairoj Piempongsant is overseeing the proposed takeover from this end.

Reading will be searching for a fourth victory in five matches when they host Barnsley this Saturday (3pm ko).

Last weekend's 2-2 draw at Ipswich Town left Jaap Stam's men third in the Championship table and five points behind Brighton in second.
