READING FC boss Jaap Stam has warned fans not to expect more January signings.

Royals broke their transfer record to land Tiago Ilori from Liverpool for around £3m last week.

But even though Stam has handed a list of potential targets to director of football Brian Tevreden, he admits the chances of bringing in more new faces before the January 31 deadline are slim.

“If it was up to me then yes, we could do with a couple of players, but I don't know.” said the Dutchman.

“We've got a list of names of players we want to bring to the club to strengthen the squad.

“I have given those names to Brian Tevreden who will talk to the owners to see if they can do anything, but I don't think we should expect a lot of players coming in.”

Reading have been linked with a host of other players including Brentford striker Scott Hogan, though rumours of a £9m bid proved to be false.

Peterborough United midfielder Chris Forrester has also emerged as a target for Stam in the January transfer window along with Crystal Palace's out-of-favour Jordon Mutch.

As the Chronicle revealed last month, Aldershot Town whizzkid Idris Kanu is on Reading's radar and Stam has sent scouts to watch the 17-year-old midfielder on a number of occasions.

Stam's spending power has not been helped by the club's ongoing takeover, though that hasn't stopped Reading from bringing in two promising youngsters this week.

Dutch forward Adham El Idrissi has been handed a trial with the Under 21s following his release by Ajax, while EDSV Academy teenager and ex-Cheslea youth midfielder Rio Dasilva has also been handed a trial.

Stam says El Idrissi could be one for the future: “He's here on a trial for the Under 21s, but not the first team.

“He left Ajax this season and we're always looking for young players to develop and eventually come into the first team squad. But he's not for this season.”

Stam, though, denied any knowledge of Omar Bogle following reports linking Royals with the talented Grimsby Town player.

“I have never heard of him to be fair,” he stated, despite rumours suggesting Royals scouts have watched the 23-year-old three times in recent weeks.

“If there is a player coming in I need to know him because I basically decide who we need in the team and what type of player I like.

“If a name comes up, I need to know that name, but this one I've never heard of.”
