PROMISING midfielder Liam Kelly has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal at Madejski Stadium, warding off potential interest from other teams.

The young playmaker has been a regular feature in Jaap Stam's side in recent weeks after forcing his way into the first team.

However, with his old contract set to expire in the summer, rumours began to spread that teams like Rangers had an interest in signing Kelly.

But the 21-year-old, who has been at the club since he was eight years old, has today signed a new three-year deal.

Manager Jaap Stam said: "Liam has great ability in his passing, his movement, his technique and he has done very well ever since we arrived at the club.

"Liam has been at Reading from a very young age - a player who has come through the club's Academy to now playing regularly in the first team.

"His success is further testament to what the Academy here has achieved and he deserves this new contract for how he has done so far this season.

"Hopefully he can keep his performances up, continue to improve and we can get ourselves an even better player than he already is in the future."
