CALLUM Harriott admitted he has found himself frustrated by his lack of game-time after coming off the bench to score his first league goal for Reading FC against Norwich City, writes Courtney Friday.

The winger, who joined Royals from Charlton Athletic in the summer, has mainly been used from the bench in Jaap Stam’s team, but was introduced late on against the Canaries and found himself with a glorious opportunity to seal all three points after a wonderful pass from John Swift.

Harriott made no mistake from just inside the penalty are as he fired the ball past a helpless John Ruddy.

Speaking after the game, the 22-year-old revealed he is still pushing for a regular spot in the Royals’ starting line-up.

“I have been (disappointed) but at the end of the day all I can do is train hard,” he asserted.

“The manager picks the team and hopefully when I start I can keep my position.

“But that’s the good thing about the team, we have a lot of good players and lots of competition.”

Harriott (pictured above) was introduced in the final 10 minutes of Monday’s game, at a point when Reading were under heavy pressure from the visitors.

But the young winger kept a cool head when presented with the opportunity to ensure the Royals ended the Christmas period on a positive note.

“At that point we were under the cosh,” continued Harriott.

“We didn’t want to let them equalise. It was good to come on and get a goal. It eases the pressure and it was a good goal.

“Swifty played it through the guy’s legs which I new he would, we do that a lot in training.

“My job was to finish it off and I did it well.”
