DOMINIC Hyam and Joseph Mendes were both on target for Reading Under 23s as they drew 2-2 with Manchester United in Premier League Two on Monday.

Hyam’s close-range strike gave Royals a 25th-minute lead, but two Josh Harrop efforts put the Red Devils 2-1 up at the break.

Mendes levelled early in the second half, but despite chances coming and going at both ends, neither side could force a winner despite Reading having the majority of the possession.

The U23s had previously been knocked out of the Premier League International Cup when they lost 3-2 to Athletic Bilbao at Adams Park last Wednesday.

A Yakou Meite brace put Royals 2-0 up inside five minutes, but an own goal and second-half strikes from Unai Bilbao and Asier Villalibre gave the Basques victory.

Three and easy

BEN House, Joel Rollinson and Danny Loader – who struck a magnificent 25-yard strike in the second half – were all on target as Reading U18s beat West Ham 3-0 to leapfrog their opponents into second in the Premier League South table.
