YANN Kermorgant has admitted he feels ‘isolated’ in the Reading FC lone striker role.

Frenchman Kermorgant has scored just twice in 12 Championship appearances this season.

But the 34-year-old has often suffered from a lack of decent service from his Royals teammates as they get to grips with a new style of playing under Jaap Stam.

And with no second striker to help out Kermorgant up front, the ex-Bournemouth promotion-winner is struggling in front of goal.

He told the Reading Chronicle: “It’s really frustrating for me at the moment.

“Sometimes I feel isolated and I have to be patient and wait for some balls to be played up front.

“We have a style of play where we build from the back and take our time.

“You need to be patient in that situation because you can go for long periods without touching the ball. But we are trying to do our best.”

Kermorgant’s first league goal this season secured a 1-0 win at Cardiff City and his second came in last week’s 4-1 defeat at Brentford, which ended Royals’ eight-game unbeaten run.

The former Charlton Athletic and Leicester City forward went close to netting on Saturday with a header saved by Derby County’s Scott Carson in the 1-1 draw at Madejski Stadium.

That result left Reading eighth in the Championship table going into the two-week international break, and Kermorgant declared: “We have had a decent start to the season as we are playing a new system with a new manager and new players.

“If you had said before the season started that we would be in this position now after two months we would have been happy.

“We’re not far off the play-off positions but we have to keep working hard and I’m sure the wins will come.”

He added: “I think last Tuesday at Brentford was a blip. We didn’t play our best game but we did create a lot of chances. We hit the post twice and I had one cleared off the line – we just didn’t have much luck.

“Maybe sometimes it is good to have a blip like this, but we showed a good reaction against Derby.”

He continued: “I think we could have got all three points. But when we conceded it became a different match and after that we were chasing the game.

“The team showed a good reaction and we kept pushing for the equaliser right until the last minute.

“So overall I think it was a good point. It was important to get something after the Brentford defeat last week.

“We really wanted to stay unbeaten at home and Derby are a really good team who might be in the play-off mix at the end of the season.”

Reading are back in Championship action on Saturday week when they travel to QPR.
