READING FC fly out to Holland for a mini-tour today on the back of a thumping 5-0 win at Boreham Wood.

Royals opened their pre-season account with a five-star display against the National League South outfit at Meadow Park on Saturday.

Jaap Stam's men took their time to get going and broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time when a George Evans strike from the edge of the box flew past Sam Beasant.

The visitors doubled their lead on the hour mark through Deniss Rakels from a Yann Kermorgant assist.

Stam made a string of substitutions as he looked to give all his players pitch-time, but Reading remained in control and grabbed a third when Tariqe Fosu turned in a Dominic Samuel cross.

There was still time left for Liam Kelley to rattled home a superb fourth from an excellent free-kick and for Fosu to notch his second and Reading's fifth of the day to cap a fine afternoon's work for Stam's men.

Former Reading striker Yakubu went closest to scoring for Boreham Wood with two decent chances during the hour he was on the pitch as he looks to find a new club in England.

Stam will now take a 25-strong squad to Holland for a week of intense training and team bonding. They will be based in Oosterbeek, 5km west of Arnhem.

The trip concludes with a friendly against Saudi Arabian top flight side Al-Taawoun FC this Friday at Arnhem Boys’ ground (6pm ko).

The squad will fly home on Saturday meaning Aaron Kuhl will take charge of the friendly at Lincoln City on the same day (3pm ko).

Reading then continue their pre-season campaign with a trip to Swindon Town on Tuesday, July 19 (7.45pm ko).
