READING FC'S pre-season tour abroad is back on.

Royals have hastily arranged a five-day trip to Holland next week for some intense training followed by a friendly fixture.

Dutch boss Jaap Stam and a 25-strong squad will fly to Amsterdam on Monday morning before taking a coach to their base camp in Oosterbeek, 5km west of Arnhem.

The next few days will involve plenty of training and team bonding before Royals take on Saudi Arabian top flight side Al-Taawoun FC next Friday at Arnhem Boys’ ground (6pm ko).

The squad will return to Reading on the morning of Saturday, July 16. As a result, Under 21s boss Martin Kuhl will now be in charge of the friendly at Lincoln City on the same day.

Royals had originally planned to return to Slovenia this summer for a pre-season tour, just as they had in 2011 and 2012 under Brian McDermott.

But the trip was shelved only days before McDermott was sacked in May.

However, new Royals boss Stam is keen to get to know his squad better as he settles into the role, and sees a short trip to his homeland as an ideal opportunity.

Stam will also take his backroom staff with him along with approximately 25 first-team players.

It appears Aaron Tshibola will not be part of the squad is is likely to have completed his £5 million move to Aston Villa before then.

Royals' first pre-season fixture takes place this Saturday when a team of mostly Academy players will travel to Boreham Wood (3pm ko).
