CELTIC manager Brendan Rodgers is lining up a summer swoop for Reading FC full-back Chris Gunter.

Ex-Royals boss Rodgers will attempt to lure the 26-year-old defender north of the border once Euro 2016 is over.

Gunter is currently with the Wales squad preparing for Wednesday night's dream semi final against Portugal.

The 26-year-old helped Chris Coleman's men pull off a stunning 3-1 victory over Belgium in Friday's quarter final, with Gunter claiming an assist for the third goal.

Reports have since emerged suggesting Rodgers is ready to trigger a £1m release clause in Gunter's contract to take him to the Scottish giants.

Gunter, who has one year left on his Reading contract, has already dealt with another major decision recently – skipping his brother Marc's wedding in Mexico later this week.

The wedding clashes with Wales' semi final meaning Gunter and parents Gerald and Sarah will be forced to miss Marc's big day in order to see Chris play for Wales in their historic semi final in Lyon.

However, Chris has promised to carry out his best man duties via Skype.

“Mum is a bit upset at having to choose,” said Gunter. "It could be the first best man’s speech by Skype ever.

"It’s caused chaos – you wouldn’t begin to imagine the trouble it’s caused.

“My brother is fine with it. My mother is a bit upset but wouldn’t miss the semi-final.”

Gunter has been a key player for Wales throughout Euro 2016 as Coleman's side reached the first semi final of an international tournament in Wales' history.

Wednesday night's clash against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in Lyon will be his 73rd cap for Wales and his 66th game of the season for club and country.

However, ex-Royals winger Hal Robson-Kanu has angered Reading fans by claiming leaving the club was 'one of the best decisions of my life.'

Robson-Kanu scored a spectacular goal for Wales during their Euro 2016 win against Belgium.
