HAL Robson-Kanu, Anton Ferdinand and Simon Cox will not be offered new contracts by Reading FC and will leave this summer, the club has confirmed.

The trio will not be offered deals when their current ones expire in the next few weeks and will depart the Madejski Stadium as free transfers.

Several Premier League clubs are hoping to snap up 26-year-old Robson-Kanu when he returns from the European Championships with Wales.

Centre-back Ferdinand, 31, and 29-year-old striker, Cox, will now begin the process of finding new clubs for next season.

In addition, six loan players - Ola John, Michael Hector, Lucas Piazon, Andrew Taylor, Matej Vydra and Alex Hernandez – have already left Madejski Stadium following the conclusion of the Championship campaign.

Manager Brian McDermott faces a hectic summer ahead as he rebuilds the squad and he is due to discuss his transfer plans with the club's three major shareholders - Narin Niruttinanon, Lady Sasima Srivikorn and Sumrith 'Tiger' Thanakarnjanasuth – later this week.

“The owners and I will have a conversation and see where we go from here and we'll get ready to go and do what we have to do to make sure we’re right for pre-season,” he explained.

"We have to make sure that we get the blend right - we haven’t got the chemistry right for a couple of years here, so what we do in the summer is important going forward.

“We’ve got an awful lot of players going out of the building, so it’s important that we do what we have to do and recruit the right players and the right characters. If we can do that, we can be successful.”

Reading's Thai owners also released a statement earlier today confirming a busy summer ahead.

“We have to build from within now and this summer will be an important one,” they said.

“Six loan players have returned to their clubs and there are a number of others who have reached the end of their contracts – so change is inevitable and we will need to build and bind together a new squad of players capable of challenging at the top end of the division in 2016-17.”

Ex-Arsenal trainee Robson-Kanu made 225 first-team appearances for Reading and scored 30 goals.

Former Reading youth player Cox rejoined the club in summer 2014, but his chances this season were limited and he made only 16 appearances, scoring once.

Ferdinand also joined Reading two seasons ago. His first year was blighted by injury and he made 24 appearances in all.

Meanwhile, Reading are hoping to tie down the futures of their most promising youngsters over the coming weeks.

Exciting right-back Tennai Watson has been offered a new deal until 2018, while Rob Dickie, who made his first-team debut in Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Blackburn, and Dominic Hyam have been offer new contracts.

New deals have also been offered to Republic of Ireland Under 21 internationals Shane Griffin and Sean Long, as well as midfielders Aaron Kuhl and Liam Kelly plus goalkeeper Lewis Ward, who is about to start a loan spell with Fylkir FC in Iceland.

Fellow Royals U21 players Zak Jules and George Legg have been offered deals, while Royals have extended the contract of USA-born Andrija Novakovich.

Reading U18 starlets Omar Richards, Harrison Bennett, Ryan East, Sam Smith, Luke Southwood, Billy Collings and Joe Tupper will all get professional contracts from the club.

However, a large number of Academy players have been released by Reading including Pierce Sweeney, Sammi Fridjonsson, Nana Owusu, Noor Husin, Hammad Lawal, Lewis Collins, Conor Shaughnessy and Bogdan Vastsuk.
