YANN Kermorgant argued Reading’s display against Nottingham Forest was the best since he joined the club.

The 34-year-old Frenchman was gushing with praise after Tuesday's comeback victory against a resilient Forest when second-half goals from Matej Vydra and Oliver Norwood cancelled our Ben Osborn's opener.

And Kermorgant, a £1.5 million January signing from Bournemouth, declared: “For me that first half in particular was the best since I signed for Reading.

“We played some great football and we were the best team on the pitch by far. Unfortunately we just couldn’t get the goal because I think that would have made a big, big difference.

“Forest were really struggling and they couldn’t believe it when they scored, but that’s football.”

Kermorgant went close on numerous occasions only to see a header cleared off the line by ex-Reading defender Matt Mills and a fine strike saved by Dorus De Vries.

He has netted only two goals in 12 Championship games for the Royals, both coming in a 4-3 win at his former club Charlton in February.

“We put some great crosses into the box on Tuesday, but I was unlucky again with a good save and another cleared off the line,” he reflected.

“On another day I could have scored a hat-trick, but I will keep trying my best and the most important thing is we created chances and won the game.

“We know when we play that formation the two full-backs are really important for their crossing.

“The fact we played two up front also was a help.”

He added: “This is a big end of season for us with a game almost every three days. We need to keep this momentum going.”

Reading return to the Madejski Stadium this Saturday when they take on Birmingham City (3pm ko).

Hal Robson-Kanu (calf) remains sidelined and is yet to return to training, but Garath McCleary and Deniss Rakels could return to the squad from injury.

Gary Rowett's Blues have seen their play-off challenge falter in recent weeks after taking just 10 points from their last 11 league fixtures.
