BRIAN McDermott said he wants to remind fans they have a lot to look forward to following standout performances from two of his younger players, writes Courtney Friday.

The Reading FC boss praised Oliver Norwood and Jordan Obita following Tuesday's 2-1 comeback win over Nottingham Forest.

Royals fell behind to a first-half strike from Ben Osborn, but second-half goals from Matej Vydra and Norwood saw McDermott's men secure back-to-back Championship victories.

It was the first time Reading had come from behind to win a league fixture since a 2-1 win against Norwich City 17 months ago.

And it also extended Reading's unbeaten league run at Madejski Stadium throughout 2016 to eight games.

Obita, 22, was a constant threat on the left channel and saw several delightful crosses provide clear-cut opportunities for the Royals' forwards.

And Norwood, 24, won the game with a scintillating strike from 25 yards.

McDermott said: "Ollie Norwood is a great lad, I left him out the team for a couple of games, he wasn't in and now he has reacted in the right way and I thought some of his play was excellent.

"From that position he was in he can score, he can pass, he can tackle and he is still only young.

"Ollie scored a terrific goal, I thought he played really well. Some of our movement in the first half was excellent."

Left-back Obita, another product of the Reading Academy, started his career as a left winger. But McDermott believes the young star has found his best position.

"He's a great lad, wants to work and wants to learn, he is going to get stronger and he is young," he declared.

"I left him out against Brighton, we had a conversation and I thought he looks a really good young left back and a strong, strong runner.

"I am delighted for him he has responded so well after the Brighton game and I thought he looked a class act.

"I hope the fans know that there are a lot of young players coming through here and there is a lot to look forward to. We want to get that message across."

A change in formation for McDermott has seen his side win two games on the bounce following Saturday's success at Bolton, and they remain unbeaten at home in 2016 in the Championship.

The Reading boss said he was delighted with the team's performance and the result against Paul Williams' Forest outfit.

"We were good value for the win there is no doubt about that," stated McDermott. "How we have gone into half time one-nil down I don't know.

"We created numerous chances, they scored and then we just had to keep on going, we managed to turn it around and win the game 2-1."

And the Royals boss was full of praise for the supporters, who have helped turn the Madejski become a fortress in recent weeks.

"We have always been good at Madejski, I have always known it as being a place which is difficult for the opposition to come to," he continued.

"We are just trying to get some momentum going. It's a shame the season is going to end in seven games."

Reading host Birmingham City at Madejski Stadium this Saturday (3pm ko).
