READING FC did no further business before the closure of the January transfer window last night.

Boss Brian McDermott had hinted he could seal 'one or two more deals' before the window shut.

But there was no more movement in or out of the Madejski Stadium, despite reports stating Swansea City were keen on Danny Williams.

Sources in South Wales even suggested the 26-year-old midfielder was in talks with Premier League Swans over the weekend, but they proved to be wide of the mark.

Reports in the national media also suggested Premier League clubs Stoke City and West Ham were tracking 20-year-old defender Jake Cooper, though the Chronicle understands no official approach was made.

It was a fairly busy transfer window for McDermott who saw Nick Blackman move to Derby County for £4 million, Orlando Sa join Maccabi Tel Aviv for an undisclosed fee and Paulo Hurtado move to Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães on loan for the rest of the season.

Jake Taylor also moved to Exeter City on a two-and-a-half year deal, Dominic Samuel extended his loan at Gillingham until the end of the season and Scotland U21 international, Dominic Hyam, joined League Two Dagenham & Redbridge on loan.

Royals boss made three signings last month after landing Yann Kermorgant from Bournemouth for £500,000, Deniss Rakels from Polish club Cracovia for around £400,000 and George Evans from Manchester City on a free.

Kermorgant and Evans were both cup tied for last Saturday's 4-0 win against Walsall in the FA Cup fourth round, which sets up a fifth round home tie against West Brom or Peterborough.

But both will be available for Reading's Championship clash against Ipswich Town at Portman Road tonight (7.45pm ko).

However, Rakels, 23, will have to wait a little longer for his Royals debut as he is yet to receive his international clearance from the Polish FA.

Meanwhile, Garath McCleary is expected to miss the game against Mick McCarthy's Ipswich with a hamstring injury.

Aaron Tshibola has also been ruled out after picking up a fresh knock just 10 minutes into his injury comeback against the Saddlers on Saturday.

Reading go into tonight's clash sitting 15th in the table, with Ipswich 10 points ahead in eighth spot.

Royals thrashed McCarthy's side 5-1 at home back in September when Sa struck a hat-trick and they have won four out of the last five league meetings between the clubs.

But Royals could be up against it this time round as Ipswich have won their last 15 fixtures at Portman Road on a Tuesday night.
