READING FC legends Jimmy Quinn, Mick Gooding and Ady Williams rolled back the years during an evening of entertainment and nostalgia.

The trio, who played major roles with Royals throughout the 1980s and 90s, were reunited at a Reading FC Former Players’ Association event at Tilehurst’s Royal British Legion Club.

Former skipper Williams acted as question-master while ex-joint managers Quinn and Gooding recalled the club’s former glories.

Organiser Richard Wickson explained: “It was packed, we could have sold a load more tickets if we had the room. Jimmy, Mick and Ady were in great humour. At times there was so much laughter I thought it was a comedy show.

“They talked about their early playing careers and they were very honest about their time at Elm Park and the players around at that time.”

He added: “This is our fifth event and each year it gets better. We are already planning the next one.”

Ex-Northern Ireland star Quinn, now a lorry driver in Cheshire, sold the Golden Boot he won for scoring 40 goals for Reading in 1993-94 season for £5,500 to a private buyer before last Thursday’s event.

The Chronicle helped publicise Quinn’s intention to sell, and Wickson explained: “It’s so rare for these things to become available. The owner wants to put on display at Madejski Stadium because he feels every Reading supporter should get to see it.”

DIDCOT Town FC will attempt to secure a place in the FA Cup first round for the first time in their history this Saturday.

They host fellow non-league side Brentwood at Loop Meadow in a fourth qualifying round clash (3pm), with the winners set to pocket £12,000. Fans can pay on the gate.
