READING FC are being strongly linked with LA Galaxy forward Gyasi Zardes.

Steve Clarke confirmed last weekend he is in the market for another striker to compliment Orlando Sa and Pavel Pogrebnyak.

Sources have since confirmed that 23-year-old Zardes is very much on Royals’ radar and the club will attempt to force through a deal before the September 1 transfer deadline.

Zardes is a USA teammate of Royals’ midfielder Danny Williams and has played 13 times for his country, scoring two goals.

At club level he has netted 25 times in 80 league games for LA Galaxy, having launched his career with Ventura Couny Fusion, scoring 10 goals in 12 games.

But Reading face stiff competition for the Californian from Championship rivals Brighton & Hove Albion and Belgian side, Genk.

Clarke has already had a busy week in the transfer market after adding Peru international winger Paulo Hurtado to his squad and landing Spanish midfielder Alex Fernandez on a season’s loan from Espanyol.

And Royals’ boss is still eager to bring Chelsea midfielder Nathanial Chalobah back to the Madejski Stadium for a second loan spell.
