The 26-year-old impressed in the final month of the season but talks over a new contract with the Royals continue to stall.

The Turkish international spoke openly and honestly about his desire to stay at the club he joined 12 years ago.

But the offer of a short-term extension to his present deal has so far been snubbed.

The midfielder feels a longer contract will remove any pressure next season and will prevent him from having to answer the same questions that he’s faced for the past three months about where his future lies.

Steve Clarke is keen to keep the midfielder, but due to the club’s financial restrictions under the new terms of Financial Fair Play, the Reading boss is determined to spend every penny wisely.

Karacan’s performances in the last month following his recovery from a career-threatening knee injury has now put Watford and Bournemouth on red alert.

Karacan is no stranger to Bournemouth having spent three months on loan at the club in 2007, playing 17 games for the Cherries.

The midfielder – who is currently on holiday in Las Vegas with ex-Royals defender Sean Morrison – is determined to extend his stay at the Madejski Stadium, but a longer contract offer from a Premier League club could certainly turn his head.

Speaking earlier this week, Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe insisted that homegrown players familiar with the league are his aim ahead of a crucial summer in the transfer window.

“You need a balance and we’ve got a wide range of targets,” he said. “We never veer away from our core aims.

“Predominately we’ll go British-based. We want dependable players – one’s we know.”

Several Championship clubs have unveiled their list of players due to be released, which signals who will stay at the club and who will leave.

Reading, however, are yet to reveal theirs and it is thought they are playing a waiting to see if contract talks with Alex Pearce, Adam Federici and Karacan are successful.
