Samit Patel made a 62-ball century as Royal London One-Day Cup champions Nottinghamshire posted a ground-record 409 for seven on the way to beating Leicestershire by 93 runs at the Fischer County Ground.

The former England international, who earlier this week signed a new contract keeping him at Trent Bridge until the end of 2020, hit 14 fours and two sixes as Nottinghamshire went on to register their fourth highest List A score.

Put in to bat by Leicestershire captain Michael Carberry, Nottinghamshire openers Riki Wessels and Chris Nash set the tone for the contest by compiling a partnership of 118 in just 15.1 overs, while left-hander Tom Moores added 76 from 62 balls.

Tom Wells and Callum Parkinson both passed 50 for Leicestershire, but Nottinghamshire were never in danger of being caught.

At Headingley, Joe Clarke, Travis Head, Ross Whiteley and Ben Cox hit half-centuries as Worcestershire continued their winning start by beating Yorkshire by four runs.

The Rapids ended on an imposing 350 for six before holding their nerve with the ball.

Clarke and Head, the latter who was Yorkshire’s overseas player in 2016, laid the platform with 61 off 64 balls and 77 off 94.

The Vikings started their chase strongly through former Pear Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Indian centurion Che Pujara, who made 101 off 94 balls, before their challenge faltered following the departure of the former for 89.

Meanwhile, Luis Reece overcame a damaged ankle to put Derbyshire on course for a victory over Durham.

Reece made his highest List A score of 92 from 107 balls despite batting with a runner and although former Derbyshire seamer Nathan Rimmington took three quick wickets, it was not enough to save Durham from a third consecutive defeat.

The all-rounder also took two wickets and although Tom Latham top scored with 66, Durham’s 272 for eight was not enough as Gary Wilson with 40 and an unbeaten 42 from Alex Hughes saw Derbyshire home in the final over.

Elsewhere, Luke Procter led Northamptonshire to a two-wicket victory against his old county Lancashire with just one ball to spare.

Northants, set 280, were 194 for two in the 34th over but lost three for five in four overs.

Lancashire looked likely to steal the match from the jaws of defeat until Procter, who finished 43 not out from 38 balls, came together with Adam Rossington, 34 from 44.

In the South Group, Rilee Rossouw scored his first home century for Hampshire as they beat Essex Eagles by six wickets.

Rossouw scored 99 on his debut for Hampshire and 90 during Monday night’s victory over Surrey, but his only hundred for the county had come on the road at Somerset last year.

He struck 111 against the Eagles as Hampshire kept up their 100 per cent record in the competition.

Hampshire, who had lost five of their last six List A matches against Essex,
had been set 304 to win after Adam Wheater, Tom Westley, Ravi Bopara and Ashar Zaidi had all plundered half centuries.

At Sophia Gardens, Middlesex defeated Glamorgan by the slender margin of two runs in a high-scoring game, achieving their second successive win.

Glamorgan, meanwhile, suffered their third loss and need to win nearly every game to have any chance of qualifying.

The home side needed 16 from the last over and would have tied the game had the final ball not landed a metre or so inside the boundary.

Earlier, Middlesex made 304 for six with three batsmen passing 50, but no one went on to reach three figures.

At The Oval, teenage all-rounder Will Jacks cracked a sparkling maiden hundred after bowling five tight overs of spin to ease Surrey to an emphatic six-wicket win over Gloucestershire.

The powerful 19-year-old right-hander, in only his third, first-team appearance, hit a majestic 121, including 14 fours and four sixes, to help his side canter to their opening win with 27 balls to spare.
