We knew that whoever came out on top would have their destiny in their own hands; a loss at the Arms Park last week meant we would have to win with a bonus point or beat Cardiff by more than 10 points.

A scoreline of 34-23 meant we did just that, edging the Blues by a point in aggregate over the two legs.

The crowd were fantastic and the drummers back to their loudest; it really makes such a difference to have an atmosphere like that behind you when you’re on the front foot and squeezing the opposition.

A special mention has to go to Tom Homer who, starting at full-back, put in a fine performance with the boot, kicking 19 points.

I was delighted to grab a brace of tries and win my first MOTM in front of my family who had travelled down from North Wales.

And what made it that bit more memorable was doing it while up against a British Lion in Alex Cuthbert.

This weekend we head back into the Aviva Premiership where we hope to continue our winning ways against Wasps in the last fixture before Christmas.

Whereas traditionally this has been one of the London derbies, from this weekend it promises to be a memorable occasion for different reasons as we travel up the M40 instead of the M4.

So far 27,000 tickets have been sold for the curtain-raiser in their new stadium, the Ricoh Arena. We’ll be doing our best to ruin the party and give the travelling Irish support reason to think Christmas has come early!

Talking about Christmas, it is one of the few downsides to the job that you are unable to relax and fully enjoy this time of year.

With training on Christmas Eve and a game on Boxing Day, lots of us won’t be able to get home to our families.

So, as it stands, there are about 10 of us at Irish looking to join anyone out there with a table big enough and several turkeys to host us!
