All is not lost just yet for Irish

SUNDAY'S second half Heineken Cup capitulation against Scarlets - which saw Irish squander a 22-10 - dented the Exiles' chances of winning Pool Six.

But perhaps more importantly it took Irish out of the box seat to qualify for the last eight as one of the two best runners-up.

However, all is not yet lost and Irish could still sneak through, or move into the Challenge Cup.

POOL WINNERS

TO qualify for the last eight as Pool Six winners, Irish must beat Leinster by scoring four tries or more and stop the reigning champions picking up any match points.

BEST RUNNER UP

IRISH still have a decent chance of finishing as one of the two best runners-up. But they need to beat Leinster and hope for a bit of luck.

Whoever finishes second in Pool Three looks a good bet to finish above the Exiles, but if Munster beat Northampton in Pool One, the Exiles could sneak through.

CHALLENGE CUP

WITH three Challenge Cup places up for grabs for the third to fifth best runners up, Irish could find themselves in Europe's second tier.

If the Exiles win on Saturday, but don't finish as one of the best two runners up, they will be guaranteed a place in the Challenge Cup.

There is also an outside chance that the Exiles could lose on Saturday and still go through to the Challenge Cup if Scarlets fail to beat Brive and other results go their way.
