NICK Kennedy believes London Irish had the physical edge over Rotherham Titans during their 38-10 victory in south Yorkshire.

Unbeaten Exiles clinched their 11th successive Greene King IPA Championship victory with another convincing display on Saturday.

They ran in five tries on the day as Tommy Bell and Joe Cokanasiga both scored twice before Scott Steele crossed late on in another bonus-point victory.

But Exiles were forced to weather a spell of pressure from Rotherham, who trailed 17-0 after 20 minutes but fought back to 17-10 at the interval.

However, Irish pulled away in the second half as their big-hitting substitutes made a key contribution.

Irish director of rugby Kennedy stated: “I’m very pleased to come away with a win and I’m pleased with the physicality that our boys brought to the contest.

“Some of our defensive sets were brilliant and I thought our bench made a massive impact when the lads came on – they really added energy and intensity.

“Our leaders David Paice and Ben Franks as well as Fergus Mulchrone who spoke well at half-time, executed exactly what they said they would.”

Rotherham were searching for a third-straight home win on Saturday, only to come off second best against an undefeated Irish side.

Kennedy added: “Rotherham is a very tough place to come and it’s an interesting pitch as the dimensions are slightly different to what we are used to.

“We had to adapt our game a little bit and we knew that they would put us under pressure.”

Irish will be back in action at Madejski Stadium this Sunday when they host Cornish Pirates in the British & Irish Cup (3pm ko).
