NOBLE Mission, younger brother of the mighty Frankel, will try to emulate his older sibling and win the QIPCO Champion Stakes on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot Racecourse this Saturday.

In October 2012, Frankel – trained by the hugely popular Sir Henry Cecil – signed off a 14-race unbeaten career with a one-and-three-quarter length victory in the Champion Stakes over the 2011 victor Cirrus Des Aigles.

This year Lady Cecil, who took up her training license in 2013 following the death of her late husband, Sir Henry, will be hoping Frankel’s full brother, Noble Mission, can follow his brother’s performance with a win in this year’s renewal.

And, once again the team from Warren Place will have to overcome Cirrus Des Aigles, as the Corine Barande-Barbe stable star lines up for a fourth crack at the race.

Speaking on the gallops in Newmarket on Tuesday, Lady Cecil said: “I couldn’t be happier with Noble Mission. He did his last piece of work on Saturday and he just loved it.

“He has been a real flagbearer for the yard since we decided to ride him from the front at the beginning of the season.

“To win a Group 1 with him was very, very special, especially with him being Frankel’s brother.

“We know that he likes soft ground and given the trip and the ground the QIPCO Champion Stakes was the obvious race for him.

“We hadn’t originally intended to give him such a long break [since July] but he has done well for it.”

She added: “I hardly dare dream what it would be like to win on Saturday. I’m a mixture of nerves and excitment.

“Just to have a runner at QIPCO British Champions Day is wonderful but to have a chance to win is a privilege.”

Regardless of having the impossible task of trying to live up to Frankel, Noble Mission has shown he has the ability to battle it out in the big leagues, notching up two wins at the highest Group 1 level this season.

He has not finished out of the top two in all his races this year, and won the Tattersalls Gold Cup in May, before claiming the the Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud in June to further enhance his reputation.
