Club captain Roy Burt held his weekend of competitions, where Russell was amongst the winners.

He beat Connor Ross on countback to the junior prize in the pick of the action from day one.

Neville Taylor totalled 34 points to win the five-day event on countback from Rosanna Bellman.

Peter Cook won the Saturday Stableford with a total of 40 points, edging out Steve Hallett on countback.

Paul Wills finished in third place with 38 points, whilst Djura Macrae-Stoelwinder (35 points) won the ladies’ prize.

Naid Rahim was nearest to the pin on the seventh hole. On Sunday, the Team Stableford featured.

The competition was won by the quartet of Kevin Greetham, Alan Horscroft and Mark Southwell.

Runners-up were the team of Andy McEvoy, Barry Slaughter, Steve Chitty and Trevor Robinson.

In third place was the quartet containing Ron Fuller, Andy Scholes, Andy Wheeler and Steve Green.

Nearest to the pin on the second hole was Charlie Mabbet, whilst Darren Gatward came closest on the 10th.

Andrew Hooper recorded the longest drive on the 18th in the final day of competition play at Calcot Park.

The event was sponsored by Cooper Reading, who showed off the new BMW i8 as well as other BMW cars.

The BMW agents also gave Naid Rahim a BMW for a weekend after he was nearest to the pin on the seventh whole.

Balfour Estate Agents sponsored the drinks in the half-way hut, and prizes were donated by Nike Golf.

l DESPITE getting off to a flying start, Caversham Heath Golf Club men’s team lost 3-2 at home to Royal Ascot.

Captain Peter Bishop and Neil Duguid got Caversham off to a fine start by winning the opening game 2up.

Daniel Dover and Mike Capaldi were also victorious 5&3, but the remaining matches went to the visiting team.

The Central Sevens side continued their march up the league with a 6-1 home win against Banbury.

The team of Darren Bonney, David Wise, Barry Rulton, Tony George, Chris Stacey, Clive Adamson and Barry Reynolds now have real title aspirations.

Caversham Heath’s Concorde League team earned a hard-fought 3-3 draw at home to Studley Wood.

Stephen Beresford, Gareth Goodall, Alban Bynoe, John Downey, Gerry Rogers and Dennis Sunderland make up the side.

Gareth Goodall and Hollis Boisson won the Scratch Pairs competition with a total of 73 points.

Richard Craven and Andrew Robertson (74) finished in second place with Barney Wytchard and Matt Robertson (75) in third position.

Mui Mui Lau (22 handicap) took the Amer Rose Bowl with a sublime total of 43 points.

Lau started well with a front nine of 20 points, and then improved with a back nine of 23.

Kjersti Cannon (23 hcp) enjoyed a marvellous front nine of 21 points. She finished in second place with 40 points.

Julie Daniels (15 hcp), helped by two birdies on the front nine, scored 39 points to finish in third position.

Caversham Heath junior members played in a British Open Medal competition, where Matt Robertson was in stunning form.

Robertson posted a nett score of 69 which included five birdies and nine pars, and helped him to a two-shot victory.

Thomas Parker finished in second place with a nett score of 71, the same score recorded by USA PGA Medal winner Will Tate.

James Millard (6 hcp) was runner-up ahead of Matt Robertson (5 hcp) and Thomas Park (13 hcp) on countback.

Millard then beat Tate to win the Junior Single title.
