GALE McAuley and Jimmy Green won the Gamhall Trophy at West Berks with 40 points, three clear of Jane Brackenbury and Tony Coventry who beat Shelagh and Barry Lancaster on count-back to take second place.

Ladies captain Sandy Miller and Mary Harwood played a pair from Donnington Valley at home on Thursday in the second round of the Daily Mail Foursomes and won 4&2 to progress to round three.

Steve Haylor won the seniors' April medal with a fine gross 83, nett 68. Bob Fagg was second with nett 73 and Brian Bailey finished third with 77.

Daniel Bowsher won the Liddiard, a men’s nine-hole stableford competition, with 22 points, while Darren Galbraith with 20 points beat Alan Capps on count-back to take second spot.

West Berks seniors beat South Bucks in the third place play-off on Finals Day at the M4 Winter League. Badgemore Park beat Oak Park in the final to take the title.

On the following day, the seniors lost a friendly match away to Ogbourne Downs 4-2.

  • CAROLINE Dover won the Ladies April Medal at Caversham Heath with nett 80.

Dover (26hcp) took the honours from Lynne Rumbold (19hcp) with 82 and Audrey Fox (30hcp) with 84.

  • SONNING 4ths lost 3-2 to East Berks.

The first two matches were snatched 1up by East Berks, and they also took the third game against Chris Emerson, playing by himself.

Sonning’s victory came in the fourth match, where Vince Bowen and Peter Chidgey secured an excellent 3&2 success.

Chris Deevey, also playing by himself, produced a magnificent comeback after losing the first four holes, going on to win 2&1.

  • CASTLE Royle golfer Harrison Arnold received an early 18th birthday present when he was crowned champion in the Peter McEvoy Trophy.

The talented youngster, who lives in Ascot, shot an opening round 72 at Copt Heath, his +1 effort leaving him five shots adrift of leader Aaron Marshall.

However, Arnold was in scintillating form in his second round, shooting a 67 to finish -3 and winning the tournament by one shot from Josh Turnock.
