Lee Kirton (12hcp) claimed top spot with 36 points (halves of 17 and 19 points, including eight pars and one birdie).

Runner-up was Jack Turrill (11hcp) on 35 points, while there were then five players all on 34.

  • READING Golf Club welcomed their new ladies’ captain, Ling Williams, in style on Sunday at the annual Drive-In.

More than 100 club members, family, friends and guests braved the extremely cold weather and the unexpected snowfall – which made driving down the first hole quite a spectacle – to show their support for Williams.

Incoming club captain Dave Kennedy will follow suit this coming Sunday, with the two captains having chosen to combine their fundraising efforts for the year in donating to MacMillan Cancer Support.

  • THE 2018 men’s competitions got under way at West Berks with a Texas scramble.

The third round of the men’s Winter League, a three clubs and putter competition, was won by Robinson and Forbes with 45 points, beating Tony Athawes and Luke Prestoe on count-back.

Colin Mercer and David Summersbee were one shot behind in third place.

The first ladies’ competition of the year was the Winter Trophy Stableford, an event that was, fittingly, won by the club’s incoming lady captain, Sandy Miller, with 26 points.

Mary Harwood was second on 24 and Ann Davies third with 21. Miller followed this victory with a win in the ladies’ Winter League when she and her partner, Renee Wheeler, beat Davies and Tina Clayton 2&1.
