THE annual West Berks Turkey Trot weekend culminated in a charity donation of £8,283 to the Newbury and District Cancer Care Trust.

On Saturday, Ann Johnson won the mixed singles competition with 39 points. Pete Ford was second with 37, while Terry Storrar was a further shot behind in third place, beating Michael Knowles on count-back.

Sunday’s mixed team event was won by Jimmy Green, Carl McCartney, Nigel Huszarik and Gale McAuley with a highly impressive 94 points, followed by Ian Lewin, Stuart King, Ian Haines and Giles Feltham with 89.

Also scoring 89, Mark Sims, Andy Livingstone, Bob Ekins and Matt Thomas were relegated into third place on count-back.

Sandy Miller and Mick Gregorace then took centre stage for the traditional drive-ins of the 2018 captains, while Gregorace, who is standing a second year, and Shelagh Forder then presented cheques to Paul Millard of the Newbury and District Cancer Care Trust, the chosen charity for 2017.

  • ROBERT Jones came out on top of the last competition of 2017 at Caversham Heath.

Jones (8hcp) recorded 41points to win Division One of the Midweek Stableford, four clear of Michael Beaumont (7hcp).

Richard Drury (18hcp) held off the challenge of John Endersby (16hcp), Steve Woolaway (14hcp) and Lee Kirton (12hcp) to claim third place on count-back, all with 36 points.

Nigel Trinder (26hcp) won Division Two with 37 points, ahead of Stuart Walker (26hcp) who took second place on count-back from Ben Storey (19hcp), both with 36 points.

Twos were recorded by Richard Drury, Santiago Fernandez-Garcia and Andy King (all on the 8th hole) and by John Clark (17th).

Woolaway has been appointed as the new club captain. He was Caversham’s first ever vice-captain under Des Kearney, succeeding him as captain in 2002-2003.
