DARREN Gatward and Graham Harwood were the winners of the penultimate Tom Evans foursomes competition of club captain Barry Sharp’s year at the helm, securing 39 points at Calcot Park.

The pair will play against the winners at Newbury & Crookham, who play the same competition, at their club in February.

Runners-up were Mo Palmer and Geoff Dormer, edged out on countback.

Martin Smith and Kevin Ward took bronze with 38 points, also needing countback to overcome Simon White and Mark Darby, and fifth-placed Malcolm Garstang and Phil Hyslop.

The special prize went to Martin Knight and Russell Taphouse.

  • THERE were some tight finishes in all three divisions in the Weekend Stableford at Caversham Heath on Saturday.

Matt Gibson (8hcp) won Division One with 40 points with halves of 19 and 21 points, while runner-up was Jon Winstanley (10hcp), on countback from Matt Robertson (3hcp), both with 38.

Division Two was even closer with one point covering the top seven players.

Stuart Webb (11hcp) came out on top with 38 points with even halves of 19, and Anne Smith (10hcp) claimed second place, on countback from Jack Turrill (11hcp), David Holloway (11hcp), Simon Walker (11hcp), Lee Kirton (12hcp) and Stephen Halford (12hcp), all with 37.

Niall Ward (20hcp) won Division Three with 34 points. Raef North (25hcp) won the race for runners-up spot, on countback from Jim McGiveron (22hcp) and Andy Ward (28hcp), all with 33 points.

Twos were recorded by Daniel Dover, Kirton, Michael Taplin and Ward (all on the 8th hole) and by Duncan Peart (13th).

Justin Wheeler (18hcp) claimed the top prize in Division One of the Midweek Stableford with 39 points, two clear of runner-up Jack Turrill (11hcp) and Barry Reynolds (12hcp).

Division Two winner was North, on countback from Jim Willson (25hcp), both with 39 points, and third was Javier Dieguez (20hcp) with 36.
