THE foggy conditions which closed Calcot Park for a few hours on Friday morning cleared sufficiently for the Bill Parsons Married Couples Event to take place.

Phil and Diana Lush took the honours with 32 stableford points, ahead of runners-up Trevor and Marilyn Pembroke, who scored 30 points.

Diana, who only took the game up recently, said: “This is the first competition I have won in golf and it is a tremendously good feeling; let’s hope this is the start of something good.”

  • WEST Berks Seniors have moved into a very strong position in defence of the M4 Seniors League title with two wins in five days.

Last Wednesday they beat Mapledurham 4-0 at home and on Monday recorded a 3-1 win away at Goring and Streatley to register four wins from four matches With an aggregate score of 14-2 and topping the Blenheim League with 10 points they will be strong favourites to win the league and reach the quarter finals when the competition continues after the mid-winter break.

  • SONNING lost 3½-1½ in the BySon Cup at West Byfleet.

Vice captain Richard Ginn and Tom Shone won their match 1up, while the last pair of Andy Keer and Neil Dellar secured the half.

The pairs of Bill Branagh and Chris Gurney Jr, Peter Hodges and Trevor Smith, and Peter Davidson and Derry Lewis were beaten.
