JANE Brackenbury won the Gillas Cup, the final ladies’ board competition of the season at West Berks, to add to the club championship, the Armstrong Salver KO competition and the Stewards Cup won earlier in the year.

On Saturday she took a four-shot lead into the Gillas final and made the top score of 28 points in very windy conditions.

Her aggregate score of 67 points was 12 points ahead of Ann Johnson who beat Gale McAuley on count-back to take second place.

Stuart King (15hcp) shot a remarkable 48 points to win the October stableford. He scored three birdies and eight pars, dropping just one shot to par on the front nine and four on the back.

Gary Abraham was second with 43 points, while there was a four-way tie in third place with Bernie Holden taking the prize on count-back from Mark Charlton, Tony Coventry and Darren Boulton.

Tony Atkins won the midweek stableford last Tuesday with 35 points beating Dave Ware on count-back, while Paul Hargrave was one shot behind third.

Aileen Summers beat Mary Harwood on count-back to win the ladies’ midweek medal with nett 76, while Pat Davies was one shot behind in third place.

Rob Bridgman scored 39 points to win the O’Connell Cup. David Gentleman was second on 34 followed by Nick Jones who was a shot further behind third.

In the team events, the seniors recorded a 4-0 win at home against The Springs, making it two wins from two in defence of their M4 Seniors Winter League title. Meanwhile, the Central Sevens team lost at home to Shrivenham by 4½-2½.

  • MARK Raymond and Lynne Rumbold held on to win the October Vase (mixed greensomes format) with 35 points at Caversham Heath on Friday.

Caroline and Daniel Dover were second with 34 points and James Millard and Sarla Read were third with 33 points.

  • IT was a special day for Scotsmen and even more-so for the ladies at Theale Golf Club recently.

Seniors vice captain, John Blair, took the honours at the annual Seniors’ Championship by a clear margin at the top of the leader board, with fellow Scot, Jim Russell taking the runners-up slot.

The first ever Ladies' Championship was won by Wendy Davies, who has been at the club for the last seven years, and runner-up was Lisa Meredith who has been a member for 10 years.
