CALCOT Park’s Gareth Johnston held his Pro’s Weekend with Alan Edwards (5hcp) with 40 points winning the individual stableford competition on Saturday.

Runner-up was John Ellams (6hcp) with 38 points, and third place went to Joe Bonner (5hcp), on countback also with 38 points.

Sunday saw a team pairs Texas Scramble featuring a double shotgun start; morning and afternoon, which permitted 132 players to enter over the day.

Fractions of points separated the winners as Joe Korting and Darren Gatward prevailed with a nett 62.4. James Darvall and Joe Bonner were runners up with a nett 62.6, and Aaron Puckett and Shane Slatter managed third place with a nett 62.8.

  • CHARLES Dixon followed up his win in last week’s Saturday stableford at West Berks with a victory in the men’s October medal with a gross 81, nett 69. He was one shot ahead of Ray Pithers in second place while Jack Findlater, with nett 72, beat Jason Kendal on count-back to take third spot.

Jane Brackenbury will take a four-shot lead into round two of the Gillas Cup having won round one with 35 points. Ann Johnson and Georgie Seaman lie joint second, both scoring 31 points, while Ann Davies is a shot further behind on 30.

The midweek mixed competition was played in ’traffic lights’ format where teams of three play off the red, yellow and then green tees in turn. The team that left all others standing comprised Davies, Chris Capel and Seaman.

The men’s autumn competition, a team-of-three Texas Scramble, was a very tight affair with John Carroll, Jock Douglas and Mark Ramos winning with nett 61.0.

They were followed by Chris Hunt, Greg Collins and Simon Barrie on 61.6 and Keith Wilkins, Garry Golding and Pete Dye on 61.8.

Meanwhile the seniors returned to winning ways with a 3½-2½ win at Caversham Heath.
