THE shotgun start competition at the West Berks Captains’ charity day was won by the team comprising Jimmy Green, Tom and Gale McAuley and Carl McCartney with 91 points.

They won on count-back from Gary Waterston, Josh March, Chris Hunt and Dan Bowsher, with Keith and Lee Wilkins, Pete Dye and Mark Ramos two shots behind in third place.

All monies raised will be donated to the Newbury and District Cancer Care Trust.

The day was marked by two competitors scoring a hole-in-one with Heather Green acing the 11th and Johnny Corbridge holing his tee shot on the 17th.

The West Berks Seniors Open hosted 54 teams and Phil Cannon of West Berks and Colin Ledbury of Frilford Heath won with 43 points. There followed a three-way tie on 42 points with the places decided on count-back. Second spot was taken by Lin Kay (West Berks) and Phil Robson (Wrag Barn), with third going to Tony Atkins (West Berks) and Tim Sly (Bassett Down).

Martyn Drewitt won the Dowling Cup, the men’s singles knockout competition, when he beat Nick Jones in the final, while Greg Collins and Simon Barrie won both the Classic Trophy four-ball-better-ball knockout competition and the Walsh Shield, the foursomes knockout.

In the Classic they beat Mick Gregorace and Jason Kendal, while in the Walsh they beat Pete Dye and Bernie Holden.

Rob Bridgeman beat Bob Ekins to win the 2017 seniors knockout competition for the second time, having won previously in 2015.

Ola Adams won the ladies’ nine-hole Harris Cup final with a score of 19 points, with Lyn Pell on 17 taking second place on count-back from Tina Mulford.

Pat Davies with 17 points won the Hannah Cup for over 29 handicaps followed by Shelagh Forder in second place and Simone Diamond third.

Greg Collins continued his run of success by winning the men’s monthly medal with a gross 77, nett 68, while Ian Haines with nett 71 beat Mark Ridgill on count-back to take second place.

Colin Harrison won the midweek medal gross 94, nett 75, four shots clear of Lee Nicholson who took second place on count-back from Martin Anscombe.

Mary Harwood won the ladies’ monthly stableford with 31 points. Carol Sparvell was second on 29 and Jane Wilmore third with 26.

Meanwhile, Mustapha (Muz) Mzouri won the Saturday stableford with 38 points and Darren Boulton with 36 points beat Paul Reber to take second place.
