PAT Hale and Paula Sibley from Drayton Park split a three-way tie on 39 points to win a dramatic renewal of the West Berks Ladies Open on count-back from Sharon McIntyre and Pamela Bowker from Drayton Park.
Alison Wooley and Karen Foan from Easthampstead came in third place.
There were 51 pairs and the best including a West Berks player was Sian Soanes, who partnered Kim Richardson of Donnington Grove, scoring 38 points.
- THE team comprising Tom and Gale McAuley and Ian Lewin, won the Pro’s Cup.
They scored 87 stableford points in the Am-Am format, winning by six shots from the team of Terry Phelps, Phil Moss and Tim Howes. They beat Jason Kendal, Luke Prestoe and Jane Brackenbury on count-back.
- RENEE Wheeler, Barry Francis and Carol Sparvell scored 116 points to win the midweek mixed competition on Tuesday.
Simone Diamond, Patrick Wilmore and Georgie Seaman were second with 113 points while Tony Pell, Shelagh Forder and Mike Sparvell were a further shot behind in third place.
- KEITH Wilkins won the men’s midweek stableford. John Carroll was a shot behind in second place, while Barrie Green on 34 beat Andy Grayson to third place on count-back.
- WEST Berks lost away to Lambourne GC in the semi-final of the Hillman Trophy.
The seniors recorded a creditable away half at Witney Lakes but the other teams fared less well on the road with the ladies’ losing 2½-1½ away to The Springs, the men’s team going down 5½-½ at Studley Wood.
The scratch team lost 7-0 at Goring and Streatley on a tough day for the club.
