THE second round of the Badger Trophy proved to be an earth-moving event for the winners Nick Jones and Mark Ridgill when a second round score of 66, added to their first round 67, saw them move from a four-way tie in fourth place to win the two-round better-ball medal with a total of 133.

One shot behind in second place were Simon Barrie and Greg Collins with 69 and 65 who also made a major move in the second round, moving from 10th to take second place from Mark Ramos and Patrick Whelehan who shot 66 and 70 for 136.

Mary Harwood won the Eastwood Cup with 33 points, beating Jan Francis on countback, while Sandy Miller who was a shot behind took third place on countback from Georgie Seaman.

Meanwhile, a three-way tie on 14 pars in the Stevenson Trophy, a competition based on the number of nett pars scored, was resolved on countback with Tina Mulford taking first place from Renee Wheeler and Jane Brackenbury.

Tony Atkins won the seniors’ medal by six clear shots and the Saturday stableford by three. In the medal he shot a gross 82, nett 69, while Barry Lancaster took second place with nett 75, beating Geoff Pudner on countback.

In the Saturday stableford Atkins’ 37 points was three points clear of Andy Grayson in second place. Following Grayson, a watchful and paternal Peter Grayson bagged 33 points to take third place from Kevin Hopwood on countback.

Dennis White won the men’s midweek stableford with 41 points, four shots clear of Barrie Green, who beat David Gentleman on countback to take second place.

The men’s team lost in the Reading and District Scratch Golf League 5-2 at home to Calcot, while the seniors lost for the first time in nine matches when they also suffered a rare home defeat, going down 4-2 to Marlborough.
