JAN Francis and her guest, Kathy North of Caversham Heath, won the ladies’ invitation day competition at West Berks on Thursday, scoring 41 points and beating Gale McAuley and Anne-Marie Gane of Donnington Grove on count-back.

Renee Wheeler and Rosemary Black from Deanwood took third place.

On Sunday, Tony Athawes and his guest Phil West of The Army Club, Aldershot won the men’s event with 44 points.

Nigel Day and guest Paul Rosier of Donnington Valley were one point further back in second place, while Mark Ridgill and his partner, Paul Wright of Cottesmore, were third on 41.

The men’s team shared the points in a closely-fought match at Goring and Streatley, while the seniors beat Wokefield Park at home by 3½ to 2½.

Renee Wheeler won the ladies’ midweek stableford with 39 points, four clear of Francis who took second place on count-back from lady captain Shelagh Forder.

Meanwhile, the seniors’ captain, Bill Loughlin, led the way in the July seniors’ medal with a nett 71, while Geoff Pudner maintained his excellent form with his nett 74 relegating Graham Mort into third place on count-back.

Eugene McEvoy won the midweek stableford with 40 points, beating Gordon Munro on count-back. Michael Knowles was third with 38.
