THERE was a three-way tie at the top of Division One in the Weekend Stableford at Caversham Heath last Sunday with Gareth Goodall emerging the victor on countback.

He scored 37 points to edge out Archie Smith (5hcp) and third was Will Tate (6hcp) Division Two winner was Dennis Sunderland (12hcp) with 42 points, two clear of David Holloway (11hcp). Third was Darren Lawrence (17hcp) with 39 points.

Lynne Rumbold (19hcp) won Division Three with 35 points. Second was Gordon Berry (19hcp) with 34 points and third was Jason Springer (21hcp) with 33 points.

Twos were recorded by Mark Pattle (8th hole); Kevin Iley, Andy Lambourne, Duncan Peart, and Matt Robertson (13th) and by Philip Beresford, Luke Penn and Will Tate (17th).

The course again proved to be a tough test for players taking part in the PGA EuroPro Tour Qualifying School event last week.

Guy Woodman and Newbury and Crookham’s James Foster tied for first place with 141 points, Foster securing rounds of 68 and 73.

Calcot Park’s Alex Lodge scored 151 to tie for 32nd place, and will be the first reserve for the final stages.

  • SONNING 2nds edged to a 3½-2½ victory against Henley.

Gareth Edwards and Mark Sawyer (5&4), Ian Gale and Andy McDonald (4&3), and Richard Shillito and Kevin Bunch (3&2) all won for Sonning, with Peter Hodges and Trevor Smith gaining a vital half.

However, the team then lost 3-2 to Reading, Edwards and Gale, and Kevin Basterfield and Tom Morrison, both victorious 3&2.

  • ANDREW Grayson won the Saturday stableford competition at West Berks with 39 points, while Paul Reber scored 37 points to beat Darren Boulton into second place on count-back.
