CALCOT Park staged their popular Tom Evans Christmas Competition recently.

The foursomes event is played for six months of the year, October through to March. The Christmas fixture is always fully booked as prizes go down to 12th place.

Second place went to Darren Gatward and Steve Cox with 41 stableford point ahead of  Kevin Ward and Simon Hunsden (40pts) in third.

The Special Prize, for the pair coming last, went to Andrew Cole and Graham Cherrill, who received a golf ball each, Cole having also won it last month.

Sunday saw the Calcot Park Junior Section hold their Christmas event, also a foursomes competition.

Winner were Josh Chapman and Harry Powell with 38 stableford points ahead of Harry West and Callum Russell with 35 stableford points.

Caversham Heath

THERE were very tight finishes in both the weekend and midweek Turkey Trot competitions at Caversham Heath.

Only a point covered the first six pairs on Saturday with two points separating the top three in Midweek.

Sean Houghton (14hcp) and Simon Walker (11hcp) took the weekend prize on countback from Gareth Ford (11hcp) and Darren Bonney (5hcp) both pairs with 46 points – the winners recording 25 points on the back nine.

It was also tight for third place with countback needed to decide between four pairs, all on 45 points.

Richard Serrano (9hcp) and James Saunders (15hcp) got the nod - on the back three - from Matt Robertson (2hcp) and Will Tate (5hcp), Jack Russell (11hcp) and Andy King (10hcp) and Mathew Brakspear (6hcp) and Matthew Murphy (18hcp).

However, Brakspear and Murphy were in prime position standing on the 17th tee, but they then proceeded to record no points on the 17th and only one point on the last.

Twos were recorded by Michael Beaumont, Darren Bonney, Andy King, David Lyons, Shane Maskell and Neil McAllister (all on the 8th hole), Nigel Barden and Matt Robertson (both on the 13th hole) and by Phil Booth and Duncan Peart (both on the 17th hole).

  • Matt Robertson (2hcp) and Andrew Robertson (9hcp) won the Midweek Turkey Trot with 45 points, including 25 points on the back nine. Runners-up, one point behind with 44 points were Scott Iremonger (12hcp) and James Millard (4hcp).  Third were Roger Landon (13hcp) and Robert Davidson (14hcp), on countback from Tony Gonzalez (12hcp) and Steve Streak (12hcp), both with 43 points.
