CALCOT Park club captain, David Wyeth, held his Stableford Competition for the Junior Section on Sunday, with Henry Drake triumphant on 39 countback with 39 points.

Josh Lewis was second and Jessica Li was third with 37 points.

Li also won the Nearest the Pin prize on the 7th hole with Josh Curtis winning the Nearest the Pin on the 17th hole.

The first of the Tom Evans Foursomes was also held on Sunday with an impressive turnout of 138 golfers.

The Stableford competition is held monthly throughout the winter and sees an A player being partnered by a B player.

The winners were Andy Macrae-Stoelwinder and Tony Sines with 44 points, one clear of Paul Challis and John Barnett.

A further point back were Dana Kinlock and Harji Bhanderi, while James Storey and Robin White came fourth with 41 points.

Completing the top five and two points behind were Richard Lee and Allan Cook.

The ‘Special Prize’ for the couple finishing last, yet each winning a golf ball, was won by Stuart Hogarth and Brian Cook.

The club’s scratch team was edged out 3-2 by the juniors in their annual challenge match.

Junior captain, Alex Jones, commented: “This annual match is something we look forward to every year. It is particularly rewarding when our junior boys and girls get one over the scratch team.”

First Team captain, James Darvall, added: “It was an unfortunate result for us, but a very exciting game was had by all and it is always a pleasure to see the determination on the faces of what will be the future of Calcot Park."

  • THERE were very tight finishes in all three divisions of the Weekend Medal at Caversham Heath.

Matt Robertson (3hcp) got the nod in Division One on countback after the first three players all finished on nett 71. Jon Winstanley (10hcp) was second, on countback from Richard Craven (1hcp).

Division Two winner was Gareth Ford (12hcp) on countback from Andrew Thompson (13hcp), both with nett 72. Third was Barry Reynolds (15hcp) with nett 73.

Division Three was more clear cut with Jack Bristow (19hcp) taking the honours with nett 71. However, it was much tighter for the places with Stephen Casey (28hcp) securing second spot with a nett 75 ahead of Debbie Harris (25hcp), on countback from Adam Baker (24hcp), both with nett 76.

Twos were recorded by Peter Bishop and Craven (8th hole) and by Daniel Dover, Kenny Price and Andy Ward (17th hole).

There was also a tight finish to Division One of the Midweek Medal where Santiago Fernandez-Garcia (12hcp) got the nod on countback from Julien Constans (9hcp), both with nett 69.

Third was Michael Gennace (17hcp) with nett 72.

Division Two winner was Caroline Dover (26hcp) with nett 73. Runner-up was husband Daniel Dover (20hcp), on countback from Jack Bristow (19hcp), both with nett 76.

The pairing of Caroline Dover and Anne Smith won the Ladies Foursomes Daily Mail Qualifier on countback from Fung Yee Sarah Lau and Pamela Stapeley, both with 75.5. Third were Kathy North and Rachel Downey with 83.5.

  • PAUL Brianboys (19hcp) blew the field of 50 apart with his nett 60 strokes when he won the Gardener Trophy at Mapledurham GC.

Second place went to Tsetso Petrof (25hcp) with a nett 64, while five players shot 65 – Karen Bridges (14hcp) taking third on countback.

The overall Midweek October Stableford winner was John Cook (21hcp) with 41 points from Peter Ambrose (14hcp) on 38 followed by Stuart Creech (14hcp).
