DARREN Rapley (pictured below with captain Brendan McKevitt) was crowned champion following the 36-hole Captain’s competition at Reading Golf Club on Sunday.

He collected 39 stableford points in the morning before returning 36 in the afternoon to secure victory with a total of 75.

Ian Jones was second on countback with 73 points, his split coming 33 then 40, while Steve Long was third, with his scores coming the opposite way round to the runner-up.

Outside the top three, Gareth Wills (39 points) and Ed Cooper (37 points) had the best scores in the morning and afternoon respectively.

In Saturday’s Captain’s Day event, John Allen recorded 42 points to win the 18-hole competition ahead of David Martin by a single point.

Ian Roostan won Sunday’s 18-hole competition with 37 points, two clear of Shaun Holmes.

The winner of the ladies’ contest was Kerry Pardoe. She scored 38 points to win on countback from Linda Harris.

Philip Morley, the general manager, Darren Rapley and Jason Macbeth will play 72 holes of golf at Reading Golf Club from first light to raise money for Macmillian Cancer Support on June 21.

  • CAROLINE Dover featured prominently in the two latest competitions held at Caversham Heath.

Dover (27hcp) won the ladies' June Medal and then two days later teamed up with three others to win the Joe Melling Classic.

Despite ending with two doubles bogey and two bogeys Dover’s nett 80 was enough to win the June Medal on countback from Pamela Stapeley (22hcp). Third was Lynne Rumbold (18hcp) with nett 81.

Caroline then teamed up with husband Daniel Dover (18hcp), Andrew Thompson (12hcp) and Debbie Harris (23hcp) to win the Joe Melling Classic with a score of 87.

Runners-up were Christopher Searle (18hcp), Paul Lobban (21hcp), Stephen Lee (17hcp) and Tom Brenchley (18hcp) with 84.

Third were the team of David Wise (7hcp), Angela Adamson (31hcp), Clive Adamson (12hcp) and Anne Smith (6hcp) with 82.
